We’ve been discussing insecurities lately and we’ve talked about how to spot some of them and why it’s imperative that we seek professional assistance to deal with them.
So to incentivise you more to be less afraid of checking up on yourself with therapy, today we’re gonna talk about what the effects are of hiding and bottling up those insecurities.
We hope you never have to suffer from any in the first place, but in case you do and are too hesitant to get yourself the help you need, we’re hoping to give you that extra push by showing you a glimpse or an idea of what can happen if you don’t.
There are some short term effects and some long term ones, here they are:
Short term
These are simply the first telling signs or symptoms that something is wrong with your psychological resilience, your emotional balance.
-
Triggers
You make rash decisions or react in odd and over the top ways to certain instances that even though might be annoying, did not warrant such an over the top reaction. This is dangerous as it could boil over at anytime whether at work with your coworkers or your boss, with your friends, or even sadly at home with your family. You’re no longer in control of your own emotional response making you a danger to yourself and those around you.
-
Shame
Excessively undermining yourself because you reach a point of such low self-esteem that you just criticize yourself on every single thing in your life to a point beyond your own withstanding. This will wear you down and make you severely depressed as you simply don’t see yourself good enough for any thing, or any one.
Long Term
- Narcissism
- Schizophrenia
- Borderline Personality
- Paranoid Personality
- Dependent Personality
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Eating Disorders
- Addiction
Each of these are reason enough to shriek. But you can easily see the patterns leading to it.
If all your life you suffer from low self-esteem, your subconscious defense mechanisms will try to compensate for that for you by creating a narcissistic personality. This way you boost your own ego to cover up the pain and trauma suffered from that deep rooted insecurity.
if all your life you’ve feared the future and can never accept that life is chaotic and unpredictable, then this will escalate and create more chemical disturbances for you creating a paranoid personality that can even manifest delusions.
Anxiety is similar to that in which you simply aren’t able to get a handle on certain thoughts and emotions where a single idea or mood could wreck you for a week and even cause you anxiety attacks.
Eating disorders caused by a constant hatred and shame of your own looks and being unable to love yourself, the damages to your health and mental state can be enormous.
Finally the big one, depression, the mother of all mental health issues. Nothing can really prepare you for the dark abyss that is depression, and it can happen to anyone.
To carry around all that abuse, trauma and pain inside will most certainly lead to a lifestyle that is bound for depression and all that comes with it.
The thing about depression is that it just tags along all the other nasty issues.
I could go on and on about the horrid problems and disorders caused by all these insecurities. I mean there’s a whole science based on them, so obviously this is serious.
All we ask, is for you to realize how to better take yourself and never let some stigma keep you from being the best possible version of you that you can be.
So go see a therapist or psychologist if you think you may suffer from any of the things we’ve talked about. Do yourself a favor, life isn’t easy as it is, so don’t go making it harder on yourself than it has to be.
Your mind needs just as much medical attention and care if not more than your body.
As always, take care.
